Homestead is a suburb of Miami located on the Florida Gold Coast, a region known for its affluence. However, unlike some of the ritzier cities in the region, Homestead prides itself on its 'hometown atmosphere.'
Agriculture is one of the mainstays of Homestead's economy. As the name suggests, the area was originally an extension of the Florida East Coast Railway which supplied construction materials to farmers claiming their free parcel of land granted by the Homestead Acts.
Renting in Homestead gives you easy access to Miami and all its attractions, including Biscayne National Park and Everglades National Park. Commuters access the Florida Turnpike via the Homestead Extension, which is known for heavy traffic. Public transit options include the Miami-Dade Transit Metrobus, Metrorail and MetroMover lines.
Apartments for rent in Homestead are priced middle-of-the-road for the state. You'll get a decent amount of space for your money and will pay only a little above the national average. As a result of the lack of developable land elsewhere in the Miami-Dade area and the damage done by hurricanes over the years, Homestead has experienced a housing boom. But there is also a high demand, so it's helpful to move quickly when you find an apartment that suits your needs.
