Anacostia is a neighborhood in Washington DC located in the south eastern quadrant of the city. Anacostia is perhaps the most well-known southeast neighborhood due to its rich historical significance. It got its start as a main living area for those working at the Navy Yard and was incorporated in 1854. Anacostia gets its name from the river that runs along it, the Anacostia River.
