Gilbert is a city in Maricopa County, Arizona. Named a Best Place to Live by CNN/Money in 2012, it's easy to understand why Gilbert is one of the fastest growing communities in the country. Residents enjoy over 700 acres of designated open space, and a trail system with more than 135 miles of marked and unmarked paths for hikers, bikers and bird enthusiasts.
Gilbert features a number of distinct neighborhoods, offering urban condos and apartments, homes and expansive ranches. The downtown Heritage District, in the heart of Gilbert, offers live theater, quirky stores, locally-owned restaurants and an iconic water tower with a plaza, where the city frequently hosts free concerts. A 90,000-square-foot office and retail development, Heritage Marketplace, complements the historic properties. Open-air shopping and entertainment centers, including SanTan Village (near San Tan Ranch) and Gilbert Town Square, are located throughout town.
Commuters in Gilbert take advantage of five bus routes that run through town, as well as a bus service that connects to Chandler, immediately to the west, and Mesa, to the northeast. The latter also connects to the Valley Metro light rail. Gilbert sits 8 miles from Interstate 10, which runs from California to Florida. Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is just 10 miles to the west, and commercial air service is also available at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.
