About Decatur
Decatur, GAArea Information
Decatur is a small city to the east of Atlanta Georgia, with lots to see and do. It?s particularly known for its great restaurants and quaint, pedestrian-friendly downtown. It?s proximity to Atlanta means that residents have all the advantages of living in a major city, coupled with the charm of living in a historic town. Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) trains take riders in and out of the heart of downtown Decatur, making it easy to get around town.
One of the best things about renting in Decatur is the neighborly feel. There?s a reason its official motto is ?A city of homes, schools and places of worship? and its unofficial motto is ?Everything is greater in Decatur.? There are events galore, from outdoor concerts to music and art festivals, that will keep your social and cultural calendars packed. Major employers include Emory University, Emory hospitals and the Centers for Disease Control.
When seeking apartments for rent in Decatur, you have several great neighborhoods from which to choose. Candler Park features a nice mix of historic homes and contemporary construction. Further west and across I-75/85 in the City of Atlanta, you?ll find historic neighborhoods, such as charming Adair Park.
One advantage to living in Decatur is that there's no need to hop on the interstate to commute to jobs in Atlanta. Drivers can take either Ponce de Leon Avenue or Memorial Drive, both of which run west to Midtown and Downtown Atlanta offices.
Alternately, MARTA trains run from Downtown Decatur to Downtown Atlanta, making Decatur one of the few cities in the metro Atlanta region in which commuting by public transit is convenient.
