Boca Raton is a pretty city in Palm Beach County, Florida, where palm trees and beautiful landscaping feature prominently. The classic Boca Raton look is the Mediterranean Revival architecture of Addison Mizner, who designed several buildings here in the 1920s, including the famous five-star Boca Raton Resort and Club. The hotel is pink, and so are lots of Mizner-wannabe buildings around town.
Boca Raton has a reputation for affluence. It's a city of golf courses and posh, fashion-forward shopping destinations. But it's also home to the largest campus of Florida Atlantic University (FAU). Around 30,000 student are enrolled in the university, so affordable apartments designed to appeal to them have proliferated near campus. FAU is Boca's largest employer.
One of Boca Raton's biggest assets is its five miles of Atlantic Ocean beach and the parks and recreational facilities alongside, including Red Reef Park, popular with picnickers, swimmers and snorkelers.
West of the city proper is West Boca, an unincorporated area that's home to large, gated communities in neighborhoods such as Sandalfoot Cove and Mission Bay, North of Boca is the city of Delray Beach, with a walkable downtown full of restaurants and shops, and growing in popularity.
Prices of apartments for rent in Boca Raton can be a bit higher than in neighboring cities.
