As you walk past the third funky little coffee shop in two blocks on your way to 10th@Hoyt Apartments in downtown Portland, you're already starting to think this might be a pretty nice place to live. At World Cup there are a couple of old timers in the window completely absorbed by a half-empty chessboard. Behind them a college student in a hoodie slouches on a couch, laptop open, earphones on. Must be on Facebook. On first impression this Pearl District apartment building is beautiful. Looking up, you make out some people on the rooftop deck. Ah, apartments with city views. They can probably see the whole neighborhood from there: Patagonia, Lounge Lizard, Relish, the fountain at Jamison Park and all 8 art galleries.
Just a few blocks away is Rogue Brewing, independent brewer extraordinaire, and its fabulous hamburgers. That could be trouble. Roll out of bed and into a train. Your apartment is on Portland's MAX Light Rail and you're only a half-hour drive from Intel, Tektronix, FEI,
