6 months of bed bugs and 4 fumigations in Bldg 4 at The Edge in West Seattle Bed bug bites started not long after sleeping in the apartment. [Never had bed bugs before, didn't recognize the bites.] Two zero-result pest inspections and two months later, I have to catch the bugs myself before the office would do anything. I will never forget when I told the manager Kriste how difficult it’s been working from home knowing I had something in my space biting me and she said, “Well, at least you can work from home right now. A lot of residents can’t right now.” The chosen fumigation process is that the pest company (Paratex) takes everything possibly affected to a special gas room. So when you get it back, you have to wash it all. Shared laundry in the basements and no dishwasher. Got the full treatment and caught a bug 5 days later. A half treatment, fogging without taking stuff out, was done and the bugs returned 17 days later. Second full treatment resulted with new bites a month later. Beginning of July the manager offers to do a full treatment and return all of my belongings to a different unit in a different building. At this point I have five months left on my lease. I’m denied the possibility of breaking my lease early without penalty. I asked management for expense reimbursement for all the laundry, medication/doctor’s visits, hotel stays (for when the pest company had all my stuff) I’d incurred throughout this 6 month experience. After providing a detailed list of expenses totaling $800, I was offered a $200 rent credit. I was told I did not have to stay at a hotel since I could’ve returned to the apartment after so many hours of gassing-- All my bedding and furniture was gone, so their expectation for my welfare seemed low. In my time at this complex, the dumpster shared with Building 4 has had 4 mattresses put out. Apparently the apartment below mine also had bed bugs. While the bed bugs did not come back to me after I moved buildings, new tenants were still being moved into Building 4. tldr; Had bed bugs for 6 horrible months. Had to move buildings. Left as soon as I could (5 months later). Location wise- It’s in a great spot if not for the West Seattle Bridge closure. The complex being on a hill lends to some nice views. Parking is hit or miss- it’s free, which is nice, but fills up in the afternoon. Mail to the office- make sure you know when a package is coming because the office notifications were at the leisure of the staff. Maintenance is excellent. Big takeaway: Possible bed bugs for long duration. *Would not recommend.*
