About the building

A unique opportunity to rent a historic home set in the beautifully preserved 19th century landscape of the Beaverkill Valley with its world renowned trout fishing. Established during the Civil War as the Post Office and General Store for the hamlet of Turnwood, the large front great room remains intact with the original store windows opening onto this sleepy end of Beaverkill Rd. There is much more history here, including the period in the 1970- 1980's when the place was known as the "Organic Farm", or alternatively referred to by locals as the "Orgasmic Farm". The location is ideal, being roughly equidistant (less than 20 mins) from Livingston Manor, Margaretville and Roscoe for supermarket, local produce/ markets, lots of fun shopping/antiquing, eating out, or just tootling around this beautiful part of the Catskill region. Majestic Lake Alder is just up the road too, ideal for those who swim laps or who simply want to fish, kayak or bob along on this pristine lake surrounded by state forests. Big Pond and Little Pond are nearby as well as the Beaverkill Trout hatchery which is a 5 min walk around the corner. There is also a public fishing pond at the Hatchery which is open on weekends- guaranteed fun for all ages! Or you can literally ask for some fresh trout for dinner on your way to Lake Alder for a swim, and they will be caught and prepared for you by the time you head home to enjoy a wood burning sauna overlooking the vegetable garden before dinner. Under 2 hour drive from NYC, there is room to be creative here with this rental as the owner is flexible about lease periods so do not hesitate to enquire what may be possible! NB : the last 3 photos are of a separate 1 bedroom "Tiny house" at the rear of the property. This can be rented also for an additional fee.
