The main house which is the one for rent, was constructed in 1673. In 1906, Ralph D. Paine, a well-known journalist and popular author, and his wife, Katharine, purchased Shankhassick Farm and completely rebuilt the main house. He raised both a family and a collection of cows, horses and chickens. My father was the eldest of his three sons and would become the managing editor and publisher of Fortune Magazine. In the 1970s he was the original remote worker, spending much of his time at the farm, and editing and publishing Fortune by phone, with occasional trips to New York.
