The neighborhood

About the building

New Orleans apartment in the best location of the Bywater. 5 doors away from The Country Club and within walking distance of 2 dozen restaurants. The location has easy access to all highways, 5 minutes away. Close enough to Street Crescent for Music but far enough away to have privacy. Half a block away from the Crescent Park for walking, jogging, or a glass of wine along the Mississippi River. This is a newly renovated unit in a safe area. Fully furnished with all updated appliances and a fantastic backyard. Bywater Cottages are on Louisa & Chartres Street. The Italianate Creole Cottage is a historic landmark with each apartment leased by the month with a minimum 28-day rate. The original cottage was built directly after the Civil War, from 1866 through 1868, as a brothel by a woman of free color, Mary O'Connor. The Property is furnished with movie set decor and historic preservation furniture. This private apartment boasts shy of 1200 sq ft of floor space, a private entrance, and 4,000 sq ft of shared outdoor living spaces, giving you an expansive living area in the heart of New Orleans. Our gardens have a private stage for unplugged music, a pavilion with an outdoor TV for movies, or a game day with friends. This is a large unit with a parlor room, an open kitchen plan, and a washer and dryer/pantry room. You also have, as a bonus, access from 10-4 pm daily to the 750 sq ft Gallery space for work and Zoom calls/meetings. This is a unique opportunity to live 12 blocks from the French Quarter and take quite romantic walks along the Mississippi. The privacy of our guests is an important part of the house's legacy. The stories that could be told are held in secret by the elaborate brick fireplaces, dated 1866 - 1870, and the old heart pine floors and barge board walls. This Italianate Creole home boasts high ceilings with race memorabilia juxtaposed with Norwegian armoires from the 1870s. Large crown moldings, magnificent brickwork, and fine furnishings are to be your new dwelling, nestled on the corner of the original H.H. Slawson Plantation's grounds. The land originally was stables and carriage houses for the Slawsons' and remained an operational business for Omnibuses until 1864. Make your Zoom colleagues jealous by broadcasting from the 9 different outdoor settings and various indoor ones. In the evenings, enjoy the courtyards and gardens while cicadas and tree frogs, and a glass of wine, lull you into the New Orleans state of mind! Our charm is locked into the brick & mortar from actors and actresses, musicians, writers, athletes, and everyday Joe and Jane who have laid the foundation for our guest cottages! Historic preservation evokes charm and elegance throughout the property, such as Lestat's fountain acquired from AMC's new series Interview with a Vampire and rocking chairs signed by Harry Connick Jr and Willie Nelson. The next generation of magic is coming to life with artists in residence, who all work remotely and are bringing fantastic new minds to the draw of the South, away from Detroit, Chicago, Minneapolis, Atlanta, and Baltimore. Without all of your patronage, we could not preserve this amazing space. *Nearest Commercial Airport: Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (~17 miles away) *Mid to Long Term Rental Only - Please inquire if interested in staying 28 days or longer.
