About 4560 C St SE

The Basics: One bedroom available in a 6 BR, 3.5 BA home four blocks from the Benning Road metro station (blue and silver line); $1100 + utilities. The Room: The room (approximately 215 square feet) has space for a desk in addition to a bed of any size. It has two large closets that each fit a tall dresser. The room has a double window that is west facing. We have a large flatscreen Roku smart TV for your use that we can mount on a wall at your request. You will share a large bathroom with another (male) housemate, who will be staying at the house approximately 10 days per month due to a long-distance relationship. So, the rest of the time the bathroom is entirely yours. Laundry machines are conveniently on the second floor. Rent is $1100 a month, not including utilities, which are typically $90 per person (water, electric, and Wi-Fi). The house has wireless internet that runs at about 300-400 mbps throughout. Your rent includes the cost of shared household items such as cleaning supplies (we split cleaning duties among the 6 adults in the household), HVAC filters, garbage bags, dishwasher pods, paper towels, spices, etc. The room comes unfurnished, but the current tenant is willing to leave furniture at your request. The room will be officially available July 1, with flexibility on move-in date. The lease will be for one year, converting to month-to-month afterwards. No pets are allowed, as we currently have a service dog and two lovebirds. The House: This beautiful house includes two floors. The second floor has a main bedroom and bath, two additional bedrooms with a large, shared bathroom, a laundry room, and a large family room which couples as a bedroom for the three-year-old. However, if you plan to have a guest, the three-year-old can sleep in the main bedroom with his parents and your guest can have the queen-sized bed in the family room. The first floor includes a back apartment (in which a couple and their service dog live), a pantry, a half bathroom, an office (where the birds live), a small storage space, a very large kitchen, and a living room. The open kitchen is perfect for a communal house, with a large island, granite countertops, dining table, and sofa. There is a grand, exposed-brick living room at the front of the house, with floor-to-ceiling windows, skylights, plants, an eating space, an electric keyboard, and an entertainment setup that includes Bluetooth speakers, an HD projector, attached Apple TV, and a large screen for excellent movie-watching. Our garage has a full workbench, a bike rack, an extra refrigerator, and a Tesla electric vehicle charger. We have ample space out front and back for plants and gardening, along with several rain barrels. The grassy backyard also includes a patio, dining table and seating area, grill, hammock, fire pit, rain barrel, and compost barrels. The Housemates: Five adults (two couples and a man in a long-distance relationship), one three-year-old boy, a boxer service dog, two lovebirds, and some fish. We work in sociology, international development, veterinary medicine, youth education, and law. We are sociable but very respectful of each other's spaces and needs. We like cooking and sometimes eat meals together, supporting a wide variety of dietary needs and preferences. We have a nice mix of doing our own thing and spending time together at home. We enjoy movie and board game nights, and host celebrations with family and friends. We keep the common areas tidy, split weekly cleaning duties, and are looking for a housemate who will do the same. The owners have a young son who is sociable and energetic, so we are looking for a housemate who will enjoy being around a young child. We believe firmly in the benefits of communal living, while also maintaining the benefits of personal spaces. This large house, with its large communal spaces and multiple bedrooms, provides the perfect home to realize this vision. The Neighborhood: The house is a seven minute walk (0.4 mi) from the Benning Road metro station on the Blue/Silver lines and one mile from a Safeway and CVS. It is accessible by bike and a short distance from the Anacostia River trails and parks as well as the Woody Ward, Ridge Road, and Deanwood recreation centers and pools. It is a block away from Fort Chaplin Park and access to the Fort Circle parks trail network. Street parking is freely available. About You: You're friendly, responsible, a nonsmoker, and enjoy children. You would consider this a shared home. Next Steps: If you're interested, please contact us for more details, sharing a description of yourself and your lifestyle, hobbies, occupation, etc. and your preferences for a shared living environment, as well as any questions you have. The room will be available June 15, with the possibility of moving in earlier or later, as the current housemate is moving out of state but with a flexible move date. We are showing the house in-person only after virtual interviews. We hope we can find someone who is truly a great fit for our wonderful home environment.
