About the building

This unusual home is an 1899 white Victorian, which has been updated and completely renovated. Taken "down to the studs" in 1999, the home was earthquake retrofitted, insulated and fitted with three VeLux skylights which bring natural light to period appointments and moldings. All of the crown moldings were carefully restored, which with dark hardwood floors, high ceilings, and a modern open floor plan create a sophisticated, relaxed vibe throughout. In 1999, all interior and exterior walls were "triple" insulated (insulation, and 3/4" plywood on both sides of the studs) for soundproofing and temperature and each interior wall has been coated with a period off-white plaster, rather than paint. The first replastering was done during the home's first major renovation (by the present owner) in 1999 and completely redone in 2021, both on the ground floor and in the upstairs loft. In the Summer of 2022, over three months, we invested heavily in transforming the architectural landscaping planting over one hundred and fifty new plants: Indian Laurel Ficus, Agave, Bougainvillea, Flax, English Boxwood, orange, pink, red and purple Lantana, Salvia and others. Inside, we focused on going over everything in the house that might be improved upon through more care and money, including painting some of the crown moldings (that had been left natural) which created a new level of sophistication to the house. We added some new appliances and renovated window and door frames. The home has a tiled fireplace, a modern kitchen with a 16-foot vaulted ceiling, beautiful rose oak cabinetry, dishwasher, refrigerator, modern gas oven, large dark sink, along with a reverse osmosis drinking water system. On the main floor are 1.5 baths, the kitchen, a front parlor room (where the fireplace is found), living room and two additional bedrooms. The main bathroom has a clawfoot tub, VeLux skylight and updated vanity and sink and another bathroom attached to the main bedroom, for a total of 1.5 bathrooms. There is an upstairs loft that can be a bedroom, media room and/or library (all three of those uses are what it is presently used for). The upstairs loft has an open-able VeLux roof-window that looks out onto palm trees and through which you hear music from the Redlands Bowl during the Summertime. The home also has a full, wrap around porch and very large backyard that is completely outlined by a 7' wall stone/cement wall which is covered with English fig vines. There are three patios including one outdoor structure in the center of the back yard for entertaining or family outdoor meals. This is a beautiful home, a site of many memorable parties and family occasions. Located in the heart of the Historical District of South Redlands, five minutes' walk to downtown, the Smiley Library and Redlands Bowl, it is a wonderful place to live. This home is available as a long-term (12 month) rental for only $3,190mo. If furniture is needed, please let us know and we'll come up with a low, fair use rate, based on whatever you need. Do you need the place for a shorter term than 12 months? This home is available as a medium-term rental (30 day minimum) for $169/day This includes: all utilities, high speed internet, plus most of the furniture you see in the photos, along with bedding and all the household amenities needed for living.
