About the building

UPSCALE 2 STORY CARRIAGE HOUSE/STUDIO IN ARCHITECTURALLY UNIQUE SETTING COMBINE LIVING + WORK IN AN AMAZING SPACE: A secret garden, haven, sanctuary, waits for you ... (you rent an entire tiny home, with living space and work/studio space). * * * * * * * * * * * * * * This is a very unusual, very cool, 2 story structure, tall and narrow. . . with a self contained living space on the near west side. Original owners were local architects, and it has been since maximized to create a totally unique space. Architectural innovation, attention to aesthetics and optimal function, make this a showplace for art and artifacts and celebrating the creative spirit. The second floor is primary living space with a fully equipped Corian/stainless kitchen, half bath, vaulted ceilings, 5 skylights, hardwood floors. It is furnished with the basics, now has a newly provided full-size bed w/ memory foam topper and built in storage. The first floor is studio and workspace, and contains a full bath w/slate shower, accessible for the tenant. Designed as a clay studio, it has been used as violin-maker's workshop, painting studio, and work-from-home office. It can be mocked up as living or sleeping space, music practice, or other creative use. Comfortable single futon/loveseat provided, great for out of town guest. French doors lead to a shared deck, great gardens and patio, and the camaraderie of residents of the main house and artist landlords. Within the compound, is a main house just a stone's throw down the path, where we are committed to recycling, treading softly on the earth, sharing diverse philosophies and making the world better for being in it. We agree to no drug use of any sort (except if you get sick), no smoking on the premises, and occasional use of alcohol. Friends/occasional respectful guests are welcomed, but a partying lifestyle, lots of guests simply wouldn't work here. The group is exceptional, friendly, and looks forward to welcoming you -- may sometimes sit out on the deck with you, occasionally share a meal or cook out. You may share the laundry facilities located in the main house basement. When they're around, the owners like to make pizza or grill salmon and have group pot lucks together. We look for tenants who are friendly, quiet and respectful, take super care of this incredible space, and will pitch in on any outdoor chores that need doing. The landscaping and deck create a lovely retreat . . . flowers, trees, perennials, shrubs, an herb garden, some vegetables planted . . . backyard has a gate and arbor, privacy fence, walkway from the deck to the main house. A pleasant, peaceful neighborhood, close to parks, less than a mile to Main Street. An easy bike ride to campus, close to AATA bus line (free to UM students/staff). Ample on street parking if you have a car. Convenient bus route to UM med center, great for a grad, researcher, writer, artist, musician or professional. Rent: $1825 + utilities, for 1st and 2nd floor exclusive use in this tiny home. Utilities average $150/mo for a single person and + 50 for a couple. This is a 12 mo. lease.
