About the building

This one-of-a-kind historic carriage house has rare lake views and tons of light through Marvin windows and sliding doors. It features a modern kitchen with high-end appliances, a large living room with a wall of floor to ceiling bookshelves, an open dining room/hall and a lake-view eating nook. Upstairs, both bedrooms have ample storage and lake views. The second bedroom has a lake-facing balcony. There is also an upstairs office space. Not photographed are a 12' x 14' brick laundry/utility room with new washer & dryer and a large 1/4 bath that are currently under renovation. Outdoor space features a lake-facing deck and easy off-street parking. New professional landscaping design in underway. This property is close to all the best of the Atwood neighborhood. Restaurants, bars, an independent bookstore, Olbrich Gardens and a K-6 school and more are all within walking distance. This history of this property is this: On February 26, 1904, fire engulfed the third Wisconsin State Capitol building. Real estate developer James Corry salvaged the Prairie du Chien sandstone, hauled over a frozen Lake Monona and used it to build a carriage house. Corry passed away before an associated home could be built, which is why the carriage house is set so far back from the street.
