The nearest beach access point is about 1.2 miles away, with 65 total access points and parking every few blocks. Leashed dogs are allowed year-round, and off-leash is permitted from October 15 to March 15.

Enjoy a stroll or stay and fish on one of Oak Islands's two piers.
The fishing T-dock at the western end of West Oak Island Drive and the dock at Veterans park offer calmer waters and are good spots to catch species like black drum, trout, whiting and croaker.
Ocean side pier fishing catches include King Mackerel, Trout, Flounder, Bluefish, Spanish Mackerel, Cobia, Whiting, Pompano, Spots, Tarpon, Amberjack, Sheepshead, Black Drum, Red Drum, and Croaker
Middleton Park offers a kids splash pad (open May-Sept) , pirate ship playground, skatepark, pickleball, tennis, basketball, baseball, cornhole, walking trails, a market field, and an amphitheater for events. Restrooms are available for visitors.
