Capitol Hill, new construction, well designed and finished. Hard flooring throughout, lots of light, room-darkening shades, utilities included. One loft bedroom, full bath, main floor powder room, Two cats allowed. Shares our compound with gardens and fenced back yard. If this unusual place fits you, come see asap! Tenants selected on the basis of compatibility with our value for gracious old-fashioned living, sufficient resources, references (including the cat(s), if applicable!).

The neighborhood

About the building

Grounds, including beautiful enclosed back yard, are shared with all tenants. Up to 12 people live in this compound.… Friendly faces and respectful treatment will win your acceptance. All summer, the roses out front are demanding to be picked. The more they are, the more there are - you will see what I mean! If you don't have heavy scissors or a clipper, borrow a tool from Chad. While you're out there, clip some rosemary spears for your roast chicken, pork, or savory bread. Tucked around the yard you'll find other herbs and flowers. You're welcome to take what you need. Leave some for the rest of us. You might like to know: Our place (102) is called the Corner House. We've lived here for 41 years. For 17 years we operated a small B&B on the second floor. Now we're not so lively, and we share our main and second floor with a good friend who helps out with management, maintenance, and the heavier work, including the outdoors. (This man is golden. Treat him well!) We also have tenants above and below us. The 106 building, a "detached additional dwelling unit," or DADU, has two apartments. It was completed in spring, 2023, and we're now seeking a tenant for Unit A, on the west side. During the building, many people expressed a preference for this unit, although it's smaller. It has a certain compact charm, and overlooks the street through the arms of a gorgeous black locust tree. This area is well served by public transit in easy walking distance. Also close by are groceries, restaurants, bars, clubs, schools (Seattle University and Seattle College), churches and other services. Although it's at the top of Capitol Hill, the neighborhood is surprisingly quiet - the loudest noises are the airplanes. Yet the sidewalks are busy with dog-walkers, runners and strollers. There are lots of neighbors, and we feel secure here. No off-street parking is provided, although Zone 4 parking with a guest permit is free from the city. We do have bicycle racks, and there are green rent-a-cycles sprinkled about nearby. We don't permit smoking, weaponry, or signage. We are *serious* about recycling, and we want to live gently on the earth and kindly among its people and creatures. We don't need any edicts to tell us to welcome the whole bouquet of the human race here. Our firm belief is that our business ends where yours begins.
