Original built in 1918, the Blackstone was the tallest building in Downtown Los Angeles.
The Blackstone Department Store Building is an early example of the work of John Parkinson , he was tasked to design a modern department store for his new commercial tenant, Nathaniel Blackstone, a successful dry goods retailer. This Beaux Arts building is clad in grey terracotta and features a detailed cornice with elaborate brackets. In 1939, Blackstone was sold to the Famous Department Store Company and became well known as high-end retailer on Broadway and now has returned with a new luxury Australian retailer BNKR located on our ground level.
Disclaimer: Historically, GreatSchools ratings have been based solely on a comparison of standardized test results for all schools in a given state. As of September 2017, the GreatSchools ratings also incorporate additional information, when available, such as college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. GreatSchools ratings are designed to be a starting point to help parents compare schools, and they should not be the only factor used in selecting the right school for your family. Learn more.
