About the House: This is a very unique living situation in the heart of the Hawthorne/Belmont neighborhood. The 2-bedroom cottage that's available for rent was originally the carriage-house for the 1890 main house on the property (which is where we live). So, the cottage and main house sit in close proximity, sharing yard and garden space. The cottage is accessed by walking past the main house to the back of the property. It's two stories, about 900 square feet, with a small, beautifully remodeled kitchen that is open into the living room. There is one bathroom. The living room has maple-laminate floors, and the bathroom and kitchen both have a marmoleum floors. The upstairs holds both bedrooms and is carpeted with a low-nap wool carpet. There is one large bedroom with a sunroom area that has windows wrapping three walls. The other bedroom is smaller with newer vinyl windows. There is a low-ceilinged unfinished basement for storage. There is not currently a washer/dryer available for tenant use, though this is negotiable for an increased rent. There is not a dishwasher. The house is freshly painted in neutral colors. The house has its own porch and private patio area. The house is old and funky, charming and special.
About You: We're looking for tenant(s) who are quiet and respectful and understand about sharing space. You're people who are responsible, pay rent on time, and let us know when there are problems or issues that come up with the rental house. You don't smoke and don't have pets, though you'd be happy to be greeted by our 2-year-old Labrador retriever. You don't mind sweeping and maintaining your small outdoor patio area. You see your home and yard as your haven.
About Us: We are two women who have owned this property for nearly twenty-five years and who love investing time in our home and garden. One of us is a teacher; the other works for the City of Portland. We have a Labrador retriever, Alva, who is very friendly and has been accustomed to making whoever lives in the cottage part of her family. It's not necessary for the new tenants to welcome her into their home, but if you love having a dog around without the responsibility of owning one, you'd be a good fit. We are homebodies who enjoy having friends over for dinner, working in the garden and taking weekend trips.
