How to Throw a Great Party in a Small Apartment

PasotraspasoTomorrow’s Independence Day, and if the weather where you are is anything like what it is in Los Angeles, it might be more appealing to beat the heat by staying indoors. That doesn’t mean you need to miss out on all the July 4th fun – why not bring the party indoors? Here are some tips on how to throw a festive little bash despite having limited space in your apartment.

Repurpose your living space.

Create more space for guests to hang out and move around the apartment by rearranging your furniture. Push couches and tables against the wall to open up room but still retain some seating. Clear away the clutter, as lots of stuff can create the illusion that a space is smaller than it really is.

Decorate on a budget.

You don’t have to spend a lot to bring a festive atmosphere into your apartment. Keep decorations simple – start with an occasion-appropriate tablecloth, add a bouquet of flowers or some streamers, and you’re ready to party!

Keep it small.

Instead of stuffing your small apartment full of people, decide on a group of friends you’d like to invite and go for a small party instead. Having less people over could open up your budget to spend a little more on food or decor. Forego the paper plates and use the real glassware to create a sophisticated, more intimate setting

Food doesn’t have to be served in the kitchen.

Avoid crowding around the kitchen island or dining table by placing your snacks around the room. Spread out the fixings on the coffee table, use the patio, make use of the entry table or any other surface. Spreading out the food and drink stations will improve the flow of traffic, prevent crowding, and make it easier for guests to mingle.

Provide icebreakers.

A party is a time for everyone to get together and have some fun. Create an inviting atmosphere by putting some board games out on the coffee table and putting on some music.

Take the party outside.

If you live in an apartment complex, there might be a clubhouse or barbecue area you can make use of. See if you can reserve the space in advance, and make sure you give your guests clear directions on where to go.
