The sweet history of the Chocolate Works began in late 1902 when this 5-building complex, located in an area of the city known as Confectioners Row, was home to the world-famous Wilbur Chocolate Company. Each of the buildings had a unique architectural style. Some featured Doric columns. Others had detailed cornices and porthole windows. All five buildings share the desirable industrial ingredients you see today in high ceilings, solid brick construction, thick timber beams and oversized windows.
The sophisticated styling of The Chocolate Works begins outside, with its landscaped forecourt with Victorian-style trellis, decorative lighting and cobbled brick paving, all framed in the dramatic backdrop of the Benjamin Franklin Bridge. The distinctive architectural features are just as notable on the interior. Exposed wood beams, brick walls and huge sun-catching windows bathe apartments with natural light. The interior courtyard, fashioned from the original steel and timber frames, creates a living sculpture and awe-inspiring central space. Each 1 and 2-bedroom apartment offers bright, spacious floor plans. Many feature breath-taking views of the Delaware River, the building courtyard and the Philadelphia skyline.
