How should go about renting if I have bad credit and an eviction? I have good stable work, pay, and great references.

About three years ago I had an ex of mine steal my bank card, I let the apartment complex know and when I got the money back I went to pay the past due and two months in advance, they told me it was too late. So I have an eviction with them. Since then I rented a room in a house, and then moved closer to home. I've been living with my mother, paying rent to her, and working at the same establishment since I arrived. I recently got a promotion and feel its time to move out. How would I go about finding someone to rent from. Is it better to go through a property management company or a private owner? And I should i disclose this info if they don't ask?

I would definitely disclose the info. and explain to them what happened. This will show them you have nothing to hide and also give them proof of your efforts to make good on the lease (if you can). Your best bet may be to have your mom either sign a letter on your behalf for your rental payments or have her as a co-signer or a guarantee-or on your next lease, which pretty much states that she is as much responsible as you are in up holding the lease agreement. This is probably your best bet in rebuilding your rental history whether it is with a private owner or a property management company.
