tried filling out search for a rental, but with no response. Is this because I set my rental ceiling too low?

Is $530 too low for a studio, mother-in-law, or 1 bedroom apartment? Nothing answered back at all to the criteria I set.

It depends on a number of factors, Deb. Where is the unit located? You will pay more depending on comparables in the neighborhood and other location factors like grocery stores, public schools, etc. I can tell you that, for the most part, $530 is too low for the area. Most units will start out in the mid-$500's and that's for a poorly upkept unit in a not-so-great part of town. If you are truly only able to budget $530/month and can go no higher, I would recommend finding a friend to rent with and splitting the monthly rent on an $1,100 unit. You will get far more bang for your buck by combining incomes and qualifying together than you would seperately.
