Is it possible for me to get on a lease being unemployed

I have a current lease coming up for renewal. A friend and I are talking about getting an apartment together to cut our expenses. However, I am unemployed. It's a catch 22 kind of situation. Can't really afford to continue paying current rent, but don't know if I can get a new lease.

I did find a place while I was unemployed, but you're right, it will be a bit harder. Somethings that I had going for me, that it would be cool if you did too:

- Solid employment history so they knew that I was capable of working and that I would be making enough money when I got a job

- Some cash in reserves, so even if I didn't immediately get a job, they could see that I could pay rent for 6 months

- A roommate with a solid job

- Good credit

You should be ok, just make sure that you can afford to move. I always underestimate how much it really costs to move... not only the actual moving process, but the security deposit, first months rent, redecorating and buying new things that fit with the new apartment, etc.

You might also be able to get a cosigner. Some places will not use assets to qualify you.
If you have someone who can co sign for you that will be your best bet.
