I'm done with renting and want to buy a house next. How far before my lease is up should I start looking for houses?
I don't want to close on a house and still have to pay rent, or pay the fee to break my lease... So essentially I really need to time my home-buying and lease-ending pretty well.How far out do you think I hsould start really , really looking for a house to buy? How long does closing normally take?

Finding the right house is another story. You can always ask to stay a bit longer than ur lease allows by paying extra, many appartments allow this. Talk to your manager.
