why are there so many rentals that are non smoking or no smoking at all. I smoke but I can pay my rent with out ant problems?

Why am i having a problem renting a house because i smoke? They ask for deposits that are not refundable. of $200.00 and $300.00. What are the doing with my money? Florida laws does not state between each rental that you are to paint and steam the carpets, change the toliet seats.

My family owns many rentals in several states. The law many not state that you have to paint and clean between rentals but most do, it is almost a must if the renters were smokers. Because of health issues we have far more people requesting homes/apt that have not had smokers in them. It requires alot of money to get a rental ready that has had a smoker living in it for any length of time. It ruins the pain, shades or blinds and takes forever to get the smell out. Thats the reality of it all.

Many owners just want to rent the house out until the market comes back up so they can sell it. Once somebody smokes in the house it is very hard to get the smell out. You could tell the owners, that you would only smoke on the porch or in the garage.
