Relocating to Chesapeake,VA for a job trying to figure out what area is most cost effective, safe&fun for a mid 20s professional any help appreciated have been told Ghent or Chicks Beach any thoughts?
Just returned to CT from having lived in that area. Chesapeake and Virginia Beach are more family oriented, but the Chick's Beach area has a mix of people. Ghent is nice, though the surrounding areas of Norfolk not so much... Are you more a "mellow-beach-partier" (Chick's Beach would be best!) or an "artsy-tree-hugger" type (Ghent would be best). If you happen to be a Democrat, Ghent, just to tell you, is the ONLY small area of the Tidewater area where you dare mention that to anyone. It is by far the most conservative place I have ever lived overall!
First of all what is your wish list of what you want and what do you not want? Do you want to own? Rent? What can you afford? Do you want no yard work? How much upkeep and time do you want to spend on a place? I think these are questions you need to ask yourself in order for someone to assist you with your living preferences. A.Hearl
I lived in Norfolk for 18 yrs. All 3 of my kids went to Norfolk public school. Some of the neighborhoods in Norfolk are ok. I would stay away from Laffayette Blvd South, and becareful around the oceanview area. There is alot of crime there.
I lived in Chesapeake, Great Bridge for 8 years, it is the best place to live quietly and close to everywhere that you want to have fun. Both of my children are graduate from Great Bridge HS and they love all the people there because is one of the most good school. Is a little expensive but is ok because is very safety and the people are very loyalty. Well I recommend to you GREAT BRIDGE.
The area of chimney hill is great because it is close to the freeway and everything as far as shooping that you might need. I dont know if you have kids but the grades schools and middle schools are great the high school you can choose the one that your kid goes to so it does not really matter. The rent is kind of high, but you can find a nice house with some size there for the same price as a small apartment. That Virginia beach area I grew up in and it is very quiet and it is close to all the bases and also back roads to chesapeake and all. Good Luck!!!
