What questions should I be sure to ask when looking at homes to buy?
A previous question on the forum about not having to disclose a murder in the house unless asked made me wonder what else I should be sure to ask about. That made me realize that I really don't ask very many questions at all about the homes I am touring, I just really look around and see if the space fits my needs
So, besides the obvious of school districts, etc, what other questions do you always ask when looking for a home to buy
Many of these things will already be covered in anyinformation you receive about the house, but here are a couple of questions I always make sure to ask:
- What year was the house built? If an older house, what work has been done (newroof, HVAC, etc)
- What type of foundation is it?
- Make sure to ask about problems that they have had in the past, as well as maintenance issues
Ask from realtor for reports on foreclosure stats, sales stats and comparables from the last 2 years for that area, may reveal something positive or scary things that you can add to pros and cons list to help you out with your decisions ...please create a pros and cons list to help you remember and review :)

- Has the house been in escrow before? Why?
- What are the property taxes?
- What association fees are there? Neighborhood or Condo fees
- Also, keep an eye out for noise factors (airline flights, fire stations, major highways, restaurants, etc)
