How legit are hotpads listings? I am looking at one now that is NOT for rent (I am the listing agent) and it seems like this site is similar to Craigs List - AKA FRAUDULENT

Fraud

I know this posting was a while ago, but I hope my info will help someone else who is searching these guys out.

I don't have proof, but I have been involved in a scam in the past and this game looks a lot like that did, though I didn't actually lose anything. Here is why I believe it's bogus:

1) There is never a direct line to reach the listing agent. If they were serious about renting the property, there would be several points of contact.

2) When you do find a number, it's a crazy area code which will not accept calls.

3) But, they will text you back and ask you who you are and what property you need assistance with.

4) I texted that this was not how renting a property goes and their response was "I don't understand you". I did not respond back.

5) The properties are always listed WAY below avg for the area in which they are located, and they are never on other sites such as Zillow, MLS or even CL. SO, my advice, though only 2 cents worth is to not waste your time.

Hope this helps someone...I have wasted way too much time seeking out homes that are not available through this site, and though I didn't lose money, I can't get that time back either! Good luck in your search!

Is hotpads legit? Unsure.. I am looking to rent out an apartment and have contacted several different owners about their listings. ALL the owners have replied stating that they are renting out their properties because they have relocated out of the country/state due to their jobs as "Robotic Programmer & Welder/Fitter"... Coincidence?
Also I have been asked for money to be wired to them as a "deposit" and in return they would send out the keys to the house for me to look at.

Hi Morgan,

Could you please forward that address to us at clientservices@hotpads.com or use the "report listing" icon to report the listing to us? We'll get the listing removed and the scammer reported. Thanks!

I also was looking at a property with the same problems such as using several different names along with different number which all are different area codes they acquire me to send them money before even seeing the property and the price is too good to be true 3224 Windsor Joliet, il I have noticed they have pulled it off the site when I started acquiring about it... I'm not too happy with this website

I have received 2 emails like the one described by Samantha. I called the numbers that said to contact these properties and I left voicemails with no response. But now I am all of a sudden getting emails saying that they had to leave for 4-7 years and need someone to rent and take care of their home. Also the same info about how much can I give now for the keys.... Do you also need the information on these? I actually tried to go back and look at one listing and it is gone....
