Our community puts up Christmas decorations - isn't this discrimination?
My family lives in a nice community with an active HOA and such. Each year, they decorate circles on the roads with christmas trees and angels and hang bows from the light poles. The also do a large manger scene with the large plastic people and animals in front of the community center. There are people here with all sorts of backgrounds and religions and I just think there should be a vote or something instead of the HOA just doing it and charging us.
Sam, Sam, Sam... SERIOUSLY!? Are you really whining about that when there are so many other issues you could fight the good fight for in our Country?? If you don't believe in Christmas, that is YOUR issue, not the community's! And Edie, if a Menorah went up in my front yard, that would not detract from my belief that Jesus Christ is my Savior (nor the fact that he was Jewish!!) and that I celebrate Christmas. In fact, my heart would be happy that someone cared enough to take the time to SHOW their happiness during whatever celebration is in their hearts/traditions. It's not the "public displays" that didn't include your chosen celebration that counts - it's what is in your heart! C'mon people, there really are more important things to carry on about! In the meantime, look to Jesus when these minute things eat away at you, he wants to be your Savior too!
Sam, Sam, Sam. You are from Providence, RI...whatever happen to the Garden City spirit...downtowns, lighting of the tree...? If your HOA is not asking you for extra these holiday months...your not paying extra... and if there are plastic people in the manger....I would move out ! Good luck !
I think it depends on the rules within your HOA, each one is different. I am sure that if you filed a complaint with the HOA for them to have some diversity in their decorations and a little understanding, there shouldn't be an issue. As for Claudia--not everyone wants to pick up and move, they just want to know that their community accepts them. Imagine if your HOA only put up a menorah by the community center around the holidays-- I bet you would feel completely different and wouldn't want to move either.
Last time I checked, this was the United States of America which was founded on Anglo Christian Judeo (sp?) values. If you don't like it, feel free to move to a country that supports your position. Oh and by the way, happy belated Easter. =)

WHEN I WAS GROWING UP NON OF THIS FIGHTING WAS GOING ON ABOUT RELIGIOUS THINGS , EVERYONE JUST CELEBRATED THEIR OWN WAY WITH THEIR OWN THINGS . NOW IT'S A BIG DEAL AND EVERYBODY WANTS TO FIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING . JUST CALM DOWN AND EXCEPT EACH OTHER AND EVERYTHING THAT'S COME WITH THEM .
