I love hotpads, but there's no option to search for acreage with a property, so that is what I would change.

Zip-based search!

I can't believe the only way to limit search results to a specific city/town is to use the lasso to re-create a town's zip code boundary by hand. Sometimes this site reminds me of good ol' MacPaint....

I'd like to be able to knock off listings that I've viewed and don't want to look at again, an option to remove them from the listings that have popped up based on my searches. It's frustrating doing a search in an area and clicking on an already viewed renting that I don't think will fit my needs but not beign able to discern them from other potential listings I might consider.

0. Add a site support system that is not hidden in thousands of non-related posts. Hotpads needs a support forum/blog/something useful JUST for site issues. There needs to be links to said tool in the HOTPADS INFO list at the bottom of every page. Since there is no such support I am dredging up this ancient post.

1. Filter by year built. This is a key factor in my searches and is sorely missed on Hotpads. Make year built required info when adding a house. The lack of year criteria on Hotpads forces me to other sites.

2. Show favorites no matter what. Filtering removes my favorites. When compiling potential properties we use varied filtered searches. Each time adding to our favorites. When done we should be able to show all favorites at the same time but still eliminate other useless listings.

3. Show lots/land regardless of filters. When building a house is an option I want to see what lots are available at the same time I see homes for sale. Lots/land are quickly eliminated by price or amenities filters.

4. Show my notes when I mouse over a property. If I have added a note they should be shown or indicated somehow when I mouse over the property. This would be especially useful when a property I have negative notes on keeps popping up in searches.

5. Make lot size a required element when posting homes. Too many home listings do not indicate the lot size.

When I search rentals in my city I find it a bit difficult to navigate. The first thing that comes up is a map with little flags all over the city. I would like to be able to see a list with prices and # of beds/baths, etc instead. Maybe then click on the address and a little map would pop up? - Maybe there is such a list but I can't easily find it. doh!

My main want is a way to sort my favorites by price, by number of bedrooms, by zip, and if possible, by distance from a given location.

I'd like to NOT get my former location from my first search. I moved to Chicago but each time I log into HotPads it pulls up my St. Louis area no matter what I do to change it to Chicago
