I'm planning to move to L.A. from Orlando, FL in a few months and I just want to know what places are best to move to for local community/junior colleges?

I'm planning to move to L.A. from Orlando, FL in a few months and I'll have money to cover myself for a couple of months no problem if a found a place, but would anyone be able to tell me the best areas to live at in L.A.? I'm thinking of attending school at Santa Monica College and I'd like to know what areas would be best to get there as well as be able to access everything else. And I also forgot, I'll be living on my own so I have read and heard a lot about how expensive it is to live in L.A. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
