How do you find a place to live having an eviction on your record?

I have an eviction on my record but I don't have bad credit. I was younger but the eviction on my record is permanent. How and where can I find a place?

Hi Porscha,

Having an eviction on your record certainly makes it more difficult to rent, but not impossible. The further in the past the eviction is, the better, of course. You will need to be able to show that you currently have enough money to easily cover the rent and will benefit from also having recommendations from past landlords. Still, you may be required to put down a larger security deposit or find a co-signer.

Sometimes, large property managers have a strict "no eviction" requirement, so you may have to go with smaller managers or individual landlords. It's always best to be upfront and give an explanation as to why you were evicted and why it will not happen again. Good luck with your search!

Definately, be the first to bring it up. Call apartment complexes, any, even if they are large. Tell them the situation, what you've learned. Ask them if you can pay with a cashiers check without fail on the day the rent is due. Lot's of people have to have a place to live after foreclosure, and apartments readily accept them if they can prove employment or at least a way to pay. Don't mess up!! If you have a roommate, be sure that you are prepared to pick up the slack if they fail to meet their responsibility. Do not fail to pay your rent and bills.
