How can i tell if a listing is a scam?

The house I'm interested in, the owner's were transferred out of state. No on local has the key, I am only allowed to go look at the outside of the house. I have been able to contact them through email.

It's a scam. First sign, they are out of state and the only way is to reach them by email. Why don't they give you a phone number. Second sign, why would they rent a place if they are not able to give you a key? How are you going to get the key? Third, if they ask for a deposit before getting the key, then it's a scam. Obvious signs are: no phone number, are out of state, you have to give them money before you get a key. Always stay away from ads with no numbers and always stay away from ads where people are out of state. When people own properties and are out of state, they would still have a "manager" in state.
