is a landlord in a rent stab. apt allowed to charge the rent increase by what they say the apt. is worth like you pay 1550 but they charge you the 8% of say 2300

in a rent stab. apt do you pay the say 8% increase of what you pay or can the landlord say you pay for what we say its worthN.Y.C.

Pretty sure that the rent increase is on what you currently pay. If they were able to add the 8% on to what they deam "market value" the apartment wouldn't really be rent stabilized. I'm not an expert though, might want to consult the NYC tenant rights handbook
