How long before my current lease is up should I be looking into a new rental house? How long does the process take application to move in?

Currently in an apartment, lease is up march 1st 2012. Not sure how far in advanced I should be looking to start applying for a new place.

Rental application takes noramlly 24 hours. If the landlord or the listing agent want to verify tenant's rental history or employment, it will take another 24 hours in most cases. I am a property manager and i do all these in average one day.
